Christian Scientists Believe

Christian Science:  The Basics

We worship the one, infinite God who is All and all-good. We understand that God is not distant and unknowable, but that God is all-encompassing and always present, and that each individual is loved by God, cared for by Him, and made in God’s image—spiritual, not material.

Christian Scientists use the Bible as our one Holy Scripture, as interpreted and explained by Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. We work to follow Christ Jesus, the Son of God or promised Messiah. And we understand the teachings and healings of Jesus to express scientific Christianity, or the application of the law of God—a law of good that is still practical and provable today, by anyone, anywhere. Christian Scientists consider the Commandments, as well as Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, to be central to our lives and practice of Christianity.

Above all, Christian Scientists hold to the saving, healing power of God’s love for everyone. No one is beyond redemption, no problem is too entrenched or overwhelming to be addressed and healed. Here and now, anyone can experience the presence of God’s goodness.

In 1879, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science, founded the Church of Christ, Scientist. Her purpose was to establish a church designed, “to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing” (Manual of The Mother Church.) Our Reading Room is operated by local branches of The Mother Church.

Join us in church this Sunday morning or Wednesday evening.
